BILLY JOEL
Cornell Concert Commission and Cornell University Program Board are excited to bring music legend BILLY JOEL to Bailey Hall on Friday, December 2nd! (Doors will open at 6:30 PM, show at 7:30 PM). Returning to Cornell for the first time since his performance in April 1996, Joel will speak with audience members and answer questions about his career.
TICKET INFORMATION: The Ticket lottery has now ended. All entrants have received emails. If you were randomly selected to purchase tickets, please log on to www.CornellConcerts.com between 9:00 AM on Thursday, October 6th and 9:00 AM on Friday, October 7th to purchase your ticket(s).

Get ready to jump up and down, because Cornell Concert Commission is bringing Passion Pit to Barton Hall on November 5th at 8:30 PM with special guest We Barbarians!
Passion Pit is an electropop band from Cambridge, MA. Known for hits like Sleepyhead, Little Secrets, and Moth's Wings, propelled by vocalist Michael Angelakos' falsetto vocals, Passion Pit is sure to light up Barton Hall with their signature deep electro grooves.
Tickets for this show go on sale to students on Thursday, October 13th at 9:00 AM for $20, rising to $25 at the door. JANELLE MONAE

Are you ready to tip on the tightrope? Better keep your balance, because Cornell Concert Commission is bringing Janelle Monae to Barton Hall on October 2nd at 7:00 PM, with special guest Fun.!
Janelle Monae is an R&B and soul singer who burst onto the scene in 2009 with Grammy-nominated track Many Moons, off her debut EP Metropolis: Suite I (The Chase). Her first full-length album, The ArchAndroid (Suites II and III), got her another Grammy nod, this time for Best Contemporary R&B Album, as well as a nomination for Best Urban/Alternative Performance for the song Tightrope. She has also been nominated for an MTV Video Music Award, and her music has received high praise from Pitchfork and the New York Times.
Tickets for this show go on sale to students on Wednesday, September 7th at 9:00 AM at $13.50 in advance, rising to $20 at the door. Homecoming Concert: B.o.B and Motion City Soundtrack!
Cornell Concert Commission is taking Homecoming 2011 over the top with a Saturday night concert in our very own Barton Hall, featuring B.o.B. with special guest Motion City Soundtrack on September 17th at 9:00 PM!
B.o.B. is a rapper, record producer, and multi-instrumentalist whose debut album The Adventures of Bobby Ray topped the charts, including collaborations with names like Lupe Fiasco, T.I., Eminem, and Weezer's Rivers Cuomo and big singles like Airplanes, featuring Hayley Williams of Paramore and Nothin' On You with Bruno Mars.
Motion City Soundtrack is an indie pop-punk group from Minneapolis, known for singles like Everything Is Alright and This Is For Real.
Tickets for students and alumni go on sale Thursday, September 1st at 9:00 am at $19, increasing to $25 at the door if any remain. Tickets for all others go on sale Friday, September 2nd at 9:00 am for $23, rising to $30 at the door.

FREE SHOW ANNOUNCEMENT!
The White Panda
Good news everyone! We're less than a month away from Cornell Concert Commission's annual outdoor semester kick-off dance party, this year featuring the mash-up stylings of The White Panda, a Chicago-based DJ duo who will be lighting up the Arts Quad on Saturday, August 27th at 7:00 PM.
Made up of Procrast (Tom Evans) and DJ Griffi (Dan Griffith), White Panda got their start in 2009, releasing their first album "Versus" at the end of the year, before following up with "Rematch" in July 2010, released while touring with artists like Chiddy Bang, Mac Miller, and Sam Adams. Their third album "Pandamonium" debuted in March 2011. Check out their YouTube Channel or their website to stream or download some tracks.
UPDATE: Supporting White Panda at this show will be Brooklyn hip-hop trio True 2 Life Music, made up of Slangston Hughes, Concise, and k.Words, all Cornell alums!

Lupe Fiasco with Special Guest K'naan!
Cornell Concert Commission is excited to announce that a fresh cool young Lu' named Lupe Fiasco will be "kick, pushin'" his way into Barton Hall on April 17th, 2011 with very special guest K'naan!
From recording in his basement to now performing with the likes of Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco has had much success in his career. He is not only a rapper, but an artist, producer, and fashion designer as well. Lupe's two albums, Lupe Fiasco's Food and Liquor (2006) and Lupe Fiasco's The Cool (2007) have received much commercial and critical acclaim. Most people can admit to knowing all the words to his hit single Superstar which was on his second of the two albums. There is much hype for his next album, Lasers, which is set to be released on March 8th, 2011, about a month before he plays at Cornell!
K'naan, formally known as Keinan Abdi Warsame, is best known for his remixed single Wavin' Flag, which was chosen to be the anthem of the 2010 FIFA World Cup held in South Africa. This Somalian-born rapper/singer-songwriter rose recently to mainstream fame after being recognized at the 2008 BET Awards Cypher. Since then, K'naan has released his second studio album, Troubadour (2009), including his single ABC's. K'naan is known for his unique sound, which has been called a blend of Bob Marley, American hip-hop, and poetry.

Andrew Bird in Bailey Hall!
Did you hear? Multi-instrumentalist and indie-folkster Andrew Bird will by flying into Cornell's very own Bailey Hall on Thursday, March 31st, presented by your friendly neighborhood Cornell Concert Commmission!
Known for his magical whistle, friendly violin, and dapper attire, Andrew Bird is recognized as a musical genius for his mastery of instruments and beautifully unique style. Andrew Bird has released an extensive number of albums over the years (solo and live), each reflecting his ever-changing and progressive style. His early work focused more on his expert violin skills and classical beginnings as seen in his first solo album, Music of Hair. His later albums (such as The Mysterious Production of Eggs and Armchair Apocrypha), on the other hand, showcase his progression towards an electric indie-folk sound which he is now well known for. He also has a reputation for improvising and reworking his songs while performing, making each show unique. Check out his performance of A Nervous Tic Motion... at Bonnaroo!

IT'S TRUE! Hip-hop mega star KiD CuDi is coming to Barton Hall on Saturday November 6th, presented by Cornell Concert Commission! He will be supported by up-and-coming rapper Chip Tha Ripper.
The Cudder needs no introduction, but in case you're curious, Kid Cudi is a recent rising star in the hip-hop family. Discovered by Kayne West after releasing his first mixed taped A Kid Named Cudi in 2008, Cudi has quickly been gaining attention. He was featured in many media including Rolling Stone and MTV News as an artist to watch even before the debut of his first album Man on the Moon (2009). Kid Cudi is now well known for his collaborations with other popular artists such as Vampire Weekend, Sharkira, and MGMT. His song "Make Her Say" with Kanye and Common was nominated for a Grammy Award this past year, along with his other hit single "Day 'n Nite."
Student tickets for this show go on sale Thursday October 14th, 2010 at 9:00 am for $19. If any tickets remain on the day of show, they will be for sale for $25... but get them before then. Really.

BREAKING NEWS! British-Sri Lankan singer, songwriter, record producer, and all around international sensation M.I.A. will be flying like paper into Cornell's own Barton Hall on October 3rd, presented by Cornell Concert Commission!
Update: Supporting M.I.A. at this show will be Rye Rye, a rapper hailing from Baltimore, MD. She has multiple years of experience touring with M.I.A., and was the first artist signed to her record label N.E.E.T. One of her biggest claims to fame is the inclusion of her single "Bang" (featuring M.I.A.) on the soundtrack of The Fast & Furious. Check out the video here!

The Flaming Lips
If you weren’t able to get a ticket for Furthur have no fear for The Flaming Lips are coming here! The second Barton Hall show of the semester will feature The Flaming Lips on April 18th. The Flaming Lips are known for their spectacular live shows complete with costumes, balloons, video projects, and giant crowd surfing plastic bubbles! The band just released a new album "Embryonic" as well as an entire cover album of Pink Floyd’s "Dark Side Of The Moon."

K'NAAN Forced to Cancel Upcoming College Tour Dates
K'NAAN has unfortunately announced that he will be canceling his upcoming concert dates opening up for Maroon 5 this November due to fatigue. The cancellation comes on the heels of K’NAAN's fall tour opening up for singer Lenny Kravitz, as well as a solo club tour.
Said K'NAAN 'I want to give a sincere apology to my fans who were coming out to the shows, and a huge sorry to my label mates Maroon 5. We were really looking forward to the tour, but unfortunately I'm not in a place where I can physically deliver my part of the show right now. I sincerely look forward to seeing everyone down the road. Sending you all love.'

MAROON 5 & Fitz and the Tantrums
Sadly K'NAAN will not be able to open for Maroon 5 next Sunday. But as they say a door closes and a window opens and that window is Fitz and the Tantrums. Promoting their album 'Songs for a Break Up,' Fitz and the Tantrums are coming to Cornell to be the new opener for Maroon 5. A band with real soul, Fitz and the Tantrums feature songs such as 'Don't Gotta Work It Out' and 'Breakin' The Chains Of Love.' Although obviously heartbroken, Fitz and the Tantrums have a jazzy upbeat sound that would get anyone over a breakup.

The Decemberists
The Decemberists are an indie folk-rock band from Portland, Oregon. Their energetic sound has lifted them to mainstream popularity and acclaim, selling out concerts throughout their tours. They recently performed at a Barack Obama rally in Portland before 75,000 people.
The Walkmen
The Walkmen are an indie rock band from New York City. Their most recent album, You & Me, charted in Billboard's Top Digital Albums, and part of the proceeds were donated to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
Loch Lomond
Loch Lomond is a six-piece band, also from Portland, who have been touring with the Decemberists.

Thanks for coming to the show on Sunday! Our first DJ act in years (possibly ever) turned out to be quite the success.
There will be a general body meeting this Thursday (9/4) at 5pm, in the auditorium at Uris Hall. Later meetings will take place in McGraw, more details on those (and upcoming concerts!) to come.
