Shwayze
Recommended by: Harris Nord
"Baby will you be my Corona and Lime. And I will be your main squeeze." Shakespeare? Shelley? Nope, this is the poetry of Malibu born Hip-Hop artist Aaron Smith, a.k.a. Shwayze. Legend has it that Shwayze was working as an assistant to his handyman grandfather in 2005 when he began an impromptu on-stage freestyle with Alex Orbison, a friend of Smith's and drummer of the band Whitestarr. Thoroughly impressed by Shwayze's improvisational chops, Cisco Adler, Whitestarr's frontman, started collaborating with him, producing a sound reminiscent of a "hip-hop Jack Johnson." In 2007, Shwayze signed to Geffen Records and released his eponymous debut the following year, resulting in two singles on the Billboard Hot 100. Shwayze is currently working on his sophomore attempt, on which he promises to feature a slew of guest artists including John Legend, Cobra Starship, and Mickey Avalon. Check out his single "Buzzin'", whose music video is a pleasant reminder of the summer season soon to come.
